Radiograph of a Family

About the Film

In Radiograph of a Family, Iranian documentary filmmaker Firouzeh Khosrovani tells her own family story, about a family divided in two after the revolution in Iran. Her mother Tayi, who lived in Switzerland for a while after marrying her father Hossein, a radiologist, has difficulties in adapting. After returning to Iran after the revolution, the chasm in the marriage between Tayi, who has become a devout Muslim, and Hossein, a progressive who believes in secular values, grows ever wider.

Through letters, videos and photographs from the family archive, the director paints a portrait of a society divided in two. “I still carry both my mother and father inside me. I am the result of the conflict between tradition and modernization in Iran,” comments Khosrovani, whose film has won awards at many festivals, including the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA).
